Ethylene: Fruit (ripening banana)

Bananas are picked when green and artificially ripened after shipment by being gassed with ethylene. Ethylene is a gaseous organic compound with the formula C₂H_4. All plants produce ethylene, but bananas produce a higher concentration and amount of it, which causes them to ripen more quickly.
