K-strategist: Giraffe

K-strategists tend to be highly adapted to their environment and are able to compete successfully for food and other resources. They also tend to inhabit stable environments and have relatively long life spans. Giraffes are able to survive by reaching the leaves and food from high up in the trees that other animals would not normally be able to reach. They have the capability of killing a lion and other killer animals with the strength of their back legs. A female giraffe is able to reproduce in her 5^th year and it takes them 15 months to produce a baby. With the death rate low, giraffes have been able to flourish and keep their population stable.
